For me, High School wasn’t a highlight of growing up. It was socially challenging more than anything else. I was a little awkward, an over-achiever at times, and mostly just wanted to be accepted. I didn’t have a lot of friends, but I did have a few good friends and I was decently acquainted with a fair amount of classmates.
Out of 370+ classmates, maybe a third showed up…tops? The most fascinating thing about it was that right away all of the same cliques naturally came back together just like things were 10 years ago and I was no different. Honestly, attending the reunion brought about a metric buttload of awkwardness initially, so it made sense to gravitate to what was comfortable.
The awkwardness subsided fairly quickly and this was when I really started to enjoy myself and enjoy seeing some old friends. Most everyone had grown up, most everyone chilled out, and the past anxieties simply weren’t present anymore. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by several people who didn’t care to give me the time of day 10 years ago.
My girlfriend, Danielle, was really encouraging and excited for me and she really helped make the evening even more enjoyable. One of my closer friends from high school, Wendy Miller, actually goes to the same Church that Danielle attends. It was one of those “small world” moments and it was super fun to see them hit it off as friends and share a passion for hiking and the outdoors.
I went with the mindset “you never know what might happen” and I feel like I was rewarded for having an open mind. I hear the 20 year reunion is a lot of fun. :D

I plan to go to my 20th, that is as long as it's planned farther out than a month in advance and ticket prices to Alaska aren't ridiculously expensive. Maybe I'll suggest we have the 20th in Cabo.
Yeah, there's got to be a better system than leaving reunions to be planned by people who were student council officers when they were 18. Who knows how they roll now?
I love the ad for this post. 'Meet Reunion Women' with the URL getafricanwomen.com. Nice!
Yeah, I don't even understand how that relates. :D
